Jann Watt-Drake, New Zealand's first Reach-Certified Personal Branding Strategist, is passionate about helping motivated mid-career professionals find their career mojo. Personal branding is a key to focusing on the positives in people’s lives. Jann uses personal branding strategies as catalysts for making work meaningful and fun.

Encountering a number of highly talented people, who were feeling unfulfilled in their work lives, Jann stepped out of her corporate role in Organisational Development and launched de novo, with the mission to inspire others to be the best they can be (and to keep growing).

Jann’s work experience in both the public and private sectors, together with setting up and running a small business, has enabled her to develop a diverse and comprehensive toolkit. Jann also has a wide range of life experiences that she draws on when working with clients. She is widely read in the area of personal branding and personal growth.

Jann has a reputation for being a forward thinker, and she is always practical, identifying the barriers that are holding people back and giving them the tools and confidence to achieve their career goals. She willingly shares her knowledge, life experiences and network to benefit others. She is a firm believer that networking is all about sharing. This is demonstrated by the number of coffee chats Jann fits into her busy week with people within her network.

Jann loves one-on-one coaching and is also adept working with groups in the role of facilitator or trainer. Jann has also built a strong reputation for working alongside Managers and their Executive Assistants, enabling them to look for ways to build on their working partnerships. She has spoken at conferences on networking and the importance of managing "brand Me".

Jann's portfolio extends further – this is reflected on her business card with the catch-cry "any other challenge considered". Over the past 10 years, she has assisted clients on interview panels, in the event management of a Senior Leaders Forum attended by 180 people, in a number of small change management projects, logistics management and hosting visiting officials from the Kazakhstan government – to name a few endeavours. She also managed to squeeze in time as the Chairperson of a Body Corporate, completing a four-year leaky building repair project. This all confirms that Jann is one of those "CAN DO" people. If you are insistent enough, she will take up your challenge.

journey
to brand "jannwatt.com"

I describe my journey of developing the jannwatt.com website the same as the saying “it’s like a plumber doing his own plumbing”!  WOW it’s so much easier helping other people get their brand communication strategy in place.  

 

I found regular excuses not to get my photo taken and then went through a stop/ start process of drafting the content.  My original plan was to launch the website on de novo’s 10th anniversary in August 2009.  I missed that date but at least we went live before Christmas 2009.

 

I had a fabulous team around me and without them this website would never gone live. So a big thanks to Sue Darroch (my personal “get on with it” coach) from Marketing Impact and the fabulous and ever so patient Carey Tuohy from the Marketing Impact Studio.

 

As part of my Personal Branding Strategist Certification I was required to complete the Reach 360 Assessment.  We used this information to help us with the design of the logo and website.

My other requirements were the website had to have a minimalist and authentic feel (uncluttered).  Carey came up with the fabulous A+ idea which as you see fits perfectly with my last name. It also fits well with my mission to assist people in finding their career mojo and being the best they can be – and more.We then chose the colours Red and Taupe as we felt these represented my attributes. Funny thing was once we locked this in I kept coming across lots of Red +’s.
